Aewol Ocean View Restaurant — Seats Where the Sea Shows Through the Full-Height Window
A Korean restaurant on the shore at Gamundong, where the dining room's full-height window faces the sea. The sea as seen from the hall and the window seats, table seating with single seats and rooftop seats, and hours running until 21:00 in the evening, all in one place.

This Aewol ocean view restaurant on the shore at Gamundong has a full-height window in the dining room that faces the sea. The Aewol sea shows through the glass, and from the window seats the palm trees and the sea come into a single frame. Seating is table seating, and there are single seats and rooftop seats as well.
How the Sea Looks from the Dining Room
The dining room has a full-height window facing the sea, and driftwood pieces hang from the ceiling. When you sit at a table, the sea runs on past the glass, and the window frames divide that sea into several panels.

A full-height window is, as the name says, one large single pane, so the sea is visible from the seats in the hall that face it. Inside, there are also displays of onggi (earthenware jars), small trays and bamboo baskets set out in a row.
What You See from the Window Seats
Sit at a window seat and the Aewol sea and the palm trees appear together beyond the glass. There is also a seat where a window opens between stone walls, and from there the sea with its breaking waves looks closer still.

On the shelf in front of the full-height window there are small objects, and beyond them the sea continues. Outside the window seats, palm trees stand in front of the sea, so what you see through the window is not only the color of the water. Even with the same sea, the sense of distance differs between looking from the hall inside the full-height window and sitting right up against the window.
Are There Particular Seats with a Sea View?
The sea is visible from the hall with the full-height window and from the window seats. At the window seats you see the sea and the palm trees together, close to the glass.
Whether a window seat can be set aside in advance, which direction the sea is seen from the single seats and the rooftop, and whether the rooftop seats can be used on a given day are all best confirmed by asking the restaurant before your visit.
Seating: Table Seats, Single Seats, Rooftop
Seating is table seating. Rather than sitting on the floor, you sit on chairs. There are separate single seats, so you can take a seat on your own, and there are rooftop seats as well.
Tables are also placed by the window, so you look out at the sea beyond the glass from the eye level of someone seated in a chair.

What a Table Looks Like in Front of the Sea
On the window table in the photo there is a plate of haemuljang (soy-marinated seafood), a tiered box of side dishes, a pot of sotbap (rice cooked and served in its pot) with a wooden lid, and a drink, with the sea and its waves behind them. It is a seat where, with the food in front of you, you lift your head and the sea is right there.

At the other window tables, too, the waves are visible just beyond the table that has been set.

You can decide what to order by looking at the photos and prices together on the menu.
Hours When You Can Eat While Looking at the Sea at the Aewol Ocean View Restaurant
The restaurant is open every day from 10:00 to 21:00, with last order at 20:00. It does not change by day of the week. From the moment the doors open at 10 in the morning you can eat while looking at the sea beyond the window, and after the sun goes down you can sit at the lit window until 21:00.
Sit during the day and you see the sea beyond the window in bright light; after sunset, the lit tables inside the glass are set in front of a dark sea. Even in the same seat, what you see changes with the time of day. Sit around lunchtime and you see the midday sea; at dinner time you see, depending on the season, the sea at sunset or the sea after the sun has set.

The time of sunset changes with the season, so on a day when you want to eat while watching the evening glow, it is most accurate to check that day's sunset time first. Orders are taken until 20:00, so on days when you arrive late to see the evening sea, use that time as your reference.
Location: the Shore at Gamundong, Aewol-eup
The address is 80 Gamundong-gil, Aewol-eup, Jeju-si, Jeju-do, and the lot-number address is 제주 제주시 애월읍 하귀2리 2812-1. The two addresses point to the same place. For maps and navigation, you can search 제주 제주시 애월읍 가문동길 80.
The restaurant sits on basalt facing the sea, and a palm tree stands beside the sign on top of the basalt wall.

After sunset, looking at the restaurant from the basalt outside, you can see the guests seated at the window seats inside the lit glass. The window where people were looking out at the sea from inside turns out, seen from outside, to be a seat placed right in front of the sea.

Directions are on the visit page.

What matters when choosing an Aewol ocean view restaurant is the seat and the time. Decide where to sit among the hall by the full-height window, the window seats, the single seats and the rooftop, and whether to go while there is still daylight or in the evening.
